Border Study Blue IV, 2014, Acrylic and pigments on paper, 10" x 16"

Bob Davison's paintings and drawings evolve from his interest in nature, science and landscape. He may begin figuratively, from observation, noting colour, pattern, structure and space. Much of the work as it develops becomes unrecognisable and abstract, attempting to show how we perceive things. Marks, colour, pattern and space become a complex mix; elements become transient and elusive.

Details and contrasts seen in garden borders and Cotswold landscapes become striking combinations of colour, marks and shapes.

The  aim is to re-present things seen in what is felt to be a more truthful way. This may present contradictions. Solids may be drawn in a linear fashion. Elusive forms such as shadows may be presented as solids. It is through these juxtapositions or collations that some comparisons between the way that we see and the way we represent are made.
